PENDLETON, N.Y. (WIVB) — Jason and Jennifer Evchich formed the Mason’s Mission Foundation in an effort to raise $445,000 for a playground that all kids can enjoy.

The playground would be like a small amusement park with a variety of different handicap accessible rides. So far the family has raised $210,000.

Recently UBMD Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine donated a grant worth $10,000 to bring the Mason’s Mission Foundation closer to it’s goal.

The project hits close to home. The couple’s sons, 3-year-old Mason and 2-year-old Matthew both have a rare progressive genetic disease that affects their brain and spinal cords. Like most children Mason and Matthew love to play, but most playgrounds are designed for kids who don’t have disabilities.

“Matthew and Mason are diagnosed with what’s called an un-diagnosed leukodystrophy. Their motor skills are diminished they have a hard time standing up, keeping their heads up, walking, crawling, talking,” said Jason Evchich, father, and Mason’s Mission Foundation founder.

“The community has been great, the gofundme page when that started it started to snowball so fast. We just really want somewhere for our kids to play,” said  Jennifer Evchich, mother, and Mason’s Mission Foundation Founder.

The Evchich family is hoping to have the playground up and running by this June.
